Rush Overview

The process is meant to emulate the recruitment and hiring processes of major companies, and gives us the chance to learn more about candidates in a variety of settings.

The Alpha Kappa Psi recruitment process is a week-long series of events that include two information session, a networking sessions, group dinners, group interviews, and individual interviews. The process is meant to emulate the recruitment and hiring processes of major companies, and give us the chance to learn more about candidates in a variety of settings. Given the fact that we do receive an incredibly vast number of qualified and exceptional candidates each quarter, AKPsi’s recruitment week is a tool for our organization to fairly evaluate all candidates in what has historically been an extremely competitive process.

AKPsi represents some of the most exceptional and interesting business-minded students on campus, and joining AKPsi gives new members access to these brothers not only as mentors and resources but also as friends. Additionally, we host numerous industry information and preparation workshops that ensure that our members are fully prepared for the upcoming recruitment cycles in industries such as banking, entrepreneurship, consulting, marketing, and tech. We, in addition to our robust professional facets, pride ourselves on the close-knit community and bonds within our brotherhood. We have weekly chapter meetings in which we discuss upcoming events, updates from members, as well as have fun with bonding activities. We also have several brotherhood events throughout each quarter that allow brothers to fraternize and socialize over food, games (bowling and poker are the favorites), and fun.

The process to become a brother of our organization is meant to instill in our brothers a business acumen and sense of professionalism that members can leverage in job and internship recruiting, as well as in their future careers. Our members learn everything from basic concepts like email etiquette and resume building to more complex knowledge such as stock pitching and technical interviewing. Our goal is that through the rush process, individuals gain not only concrete and relevant business knowledge and skills but also a deeper sense of our brotherhood, community, and our core values.

If you are interested in joining AKPsi, please make sure to note this recruitment cycle’s deadlines and requirements. Be confident and be yourself when going through this process, as we are looking for your potential and personality to show during the week, as we ultimately hope to choose candidates who are not only outstanding academically, but also show a genuine passion for our fraternity and its values. Finally, please know and take into consideration your own schedule and time constraints; rushing and pledging both require significant time and effort.

We are incredibly excited to get to know each and every one of you through the recruitment process. As always, we are honored and humbled by your interest in joining our fraternity and will continue to do our best to serve you, the Northwestern community, and our world.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I JOIN ALPHA KAPPA PSI?

Alpha Kappa Psi is a national organization, and joining it gives you access and connections to a global network of business-oriented students and alumni. Additionally we provide numerous career development opportunities that will allow you to strengthen your business acumen and better position yourself in the job market. Our brothers represent a diverse set of interests, backgrounds, and career trajectories and excel throughout and after their Northwestern careers. Joining AKPsi, however, is not the same as just joining another business club. We are first and foremost a brotherhood, and with that comes a close bond between each of the brothers as we strive to not only ensure each other’s professional success but also be there for each other as genuine mentors and friends.

DOES ALPHA KAPPA PSI ONLY TAKE BUSINESS MAJORS?

No. Because Northwestern does not offer a formal undergraduate business program, and because we believe that business-minded people can come from any college with any degree, we accept applicants from every school and major. Candidates must have, however, a shared passion for business and a strong drive to succeed in their professional and extracurricular roles.

HOW MUCH OF A TIME COMMITMENT IS ALPHA KAPPA PSI?

Once they are accepted to pledge the fraternity (post-Rush Week), pledges will be required to attend a series of events as well as complete a variety of projects and tasks. Although the process can be rigorous and time consuming, however, we believe that pledging acts as an opportunity of personal growth, professional development, and network creation for our potential new members. The 10-week process is designed to help new members get the most out of their first few months of membership both socially and professionally, and we believe that all pledges will finish their term having received an extraordinary amount of knowledge and skill from their time and effort invested. However, once the pledging process is completed and pledges officially become brothers, the time commitment lowers to 1 hour a week of Chapter meeting in addition to some fundraising and bonding activities.

CAN I RUSH MORE THAN ONCE?

Yes. Many of our current brothers have rushed more than once, and it is not seen as a negative factor if you have. In fact, we offer applicants a chance to rush in both the Fall and the Spring so that we can give individuals as many chances to join our fraternity as possible.
